Sessions Remember: Tuition for Pre-K in the 2011-2012 school year will be paid by the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program through the West Des Moines Community School District. Pre-Kindergarten 4-day program Our pre-kindergarten program provides kindergarten readiness experiences for your child through physical, emotional, social and cognitive developmentally appropriate curriculum. The children will be exposed to a wide variety of skill activities such as number and letter recognition, matching, classifying, counting, listening skills and hand-eye coordination. Early literacy skills are introduced through rhyming, alliteration, segment blending and phonological awareness. AM - four mornings Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 8:45 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Class size is limited to 16 children Children must be 4 by September 15th. PM - four afternoons Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Class size is limited to 16 children Children must be 4 by September 15th. 3 and 4-year old programs Our 3&4-year old programs provide an opportunity for children to develop early literacy, mathematical, fine motor, gross motor, autonomy, and listening skills through small and large group instruction and activities, and play-based exploration in centers both inside and outside. Class sizes vary between 12 and 16 children and all children must be toilet trained. 3 year old 3-day program Monday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. Children must be 3 by September 15th. 3 year old 2-day program Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children must be 3 by September 15th. 2 and 3-year old programs Our 2&3-year old program provides a “jump start” into preschool. This play-based program focuses on social skills such as sharing ideas and sitting quietly at group time, sharing toys, and greeting classmates. Personal autonomy is taught and encouraged. Daily songs, finger plays, and felt board rhymes provide children with a fun way to engage in group activities. Early counting skills, letter recognition, shapes, and colors are taught through song, play, and group activities. Play-based exploration in centers both inside and outside is offered daily. Class size is limited to 10 children beginning in September with an additional 2 “January start” spots. Children do not have to be toilet trained. Tuesday and Thursday 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Children must be 2 by April 1st to start in September. Children must be 2 by September 15th to start in January. Kids’ Kingdom Kids’ Kingdom is a religious play hour designed to give preschool-aged children the opportunity to learn about the love of God through stories, songs, and play. Kids’ Kingdom is held on most Fridays Children are asked to bring a sack lunch. Children who are in preschool Friday mornings can bring their lunch that morning and will be escorted to Kids’ Kingdom at 11:30. They don’t need to be picked up that day until 1:00pm. Afternoon pre-K students can come early on Fridays, at 11:30, and will be escorted to their classroom where they will stay until 3:30pm. Tuesday and Thursday morning students can come back on Fridays from 11:30-1:00 for a third day of preschool activities. Children must be toilet-trained to attend Kids’ Kingdom.
